Before surgery

Surgical consent

What you are agreeing to when you sign, in plain language, before the paperwork.

Why consent is a conversation, not a signature

Consent is only meaningful if you understand what you are consenting to. We go through this at the consultation and again on the morning of surgery, and you are free to stop and ask about anything on the form.

The signed document is countersigned by the surgeon and a copy is given to you to keep.

What the form covers

01

The planned procedure

Technique, approximate graft numbers, the area being treated and the density target agreed at consultation.

02

Expected outcome

That growth is gradual, judged at twelve to eighteen months, and that a second session may be wanted later as untreated hair continues to thin.

03

Risks and side effects

Swelling, temporary numbness, shock loss, scarring at the donor site, and the small risks of infection or poor healing.

04

Anaesthesia

Local anaesthetic with nerve blocks, and sedation if you have chosen it, along with the fasting and driver requirements that go with it.

05

Photography

Clinical photographs are taken for your record. Any use beyond your file requires a separate, specific authorisation you can decline without affecting your care.

06

Your obligations

Disclosing medications and conditions honestly, following pre-operative instructions, and attending follow-up appointments.

Withdrawing consent

You can withdraw consent at any point before surgery begins, including on the day. The reservation policy governs the deposit, but nobody will pressure you to proceed with an operation you have doubts about.
